WOHS, Algebra 1, Quarter 1, Week 4 Plans

Since we have a short week due to Monday’s holiday, I figured we could spend some more time mastering our equation solving skills, while adding just a bit of new material that follows the same rules as equations.  I plan on taking another test on Friday over equations.  I hope is to see improvement from last week to this week in terms of equation solving skills.

Monday, 9/2- No School

Tuesday, 9/3- First half of class: Solving Practice . Second half of class:  Rewriting Formulas

Wednesday, 9/4- First half of class:  Solving Practice.  Second half of class: Solving equations for y=

Thursday, 9/5:  First half of class:  Solving Practice.  Second half of class:  Solving equations for y=

Friday, 9/6:  Test #2:  Solving Equations (again), including for y=

WOHS, Algebra 1, Quarter 1, Week 3 Plans

We are continuing to practice our equation solving skills.  We are going to be solving, solving, solving.  So much, in fact, that your student may start solving equations in their dreams.

Monday, 8/26- Section 1.3:  Solving Equations with variables on both sides

Tuesday, 8/27- More solving equations: simple, two-step, multi-step, including equations with infinitely many or no solution.

Wednesday, 8/28- More solving equations practice, Quiz #2

Thursday, 8/29-  Test #1 Review (including grading and discussing yesterday’s quiz)

Friday, 8/30-  Test#1: Solving Linear Equations.

Important Information:

  1.  I post copies of my class notes into google classroom weekly.  If your student needs notes assistance, it can be found there.  I am also available before school daily at 7:30.
  2. Since our first test is this week, please allow me to explain how your student can bring up a failing test score, if necessary. If your student fails a test, they need to come to before school tutorials in order to be eligible to take a “Test Boost” that can add points to their test score. The number of tutorial days determines the possible number of points that can be earned back.  1 day = up to 10 points. 2 days= up to 20 points.   3 days = up to 30 points.  These tutorials (and the test boost) must be completed within one week of the test grade being posted.

Wednesday, 8/14- First Day Info.  Meet and greet students and share class expectations.

Thursday, 8/15- Adding and Subtracting Integers Practice (Review from Middle School)

Friday, 8/16- Multiplying and Dividing Integers Practice (Review from Middle School)

Monday, 8/19-  Chapter 1, Section 1:  Solving One Step Equations.  Assignment #1 will be posted online to Big Ideas Math (BIM).  Students will have two days to complete.  Due by end of school day (EOD) Wednesday.

Tuesday, 8/20- Chapter 1, Section 2:  Solving Two Step Equations.  Assignment #2 will be posted online to BIM. Due EOD Friday.

Wednesday, 8/21- Chapter 1, Section 2 (Part II): Using distribution and combining like terms to simplify equations before solving.
